Leeches, divas and men in dresses — for some Gay List Daily readers that may sound like the cast of a regular weekend outing. January’s theatre scene is over the top with flamboyant characters and high-sass comedies. All that’s missing are the patrons to take it all in (and perhaps some scantily clad chorus boys).
Attack! Of the Killer Mutant Leeches!

Okay, so this is not the caliber of show that Sir Ian McKellen may be bringing to the screen anytime soon, but the Pocket Sandwich’s popcorn-tossing comedies always promise a good time. You can either go on a blind date and end up with a leech of your own or get tickets for a show. Our recommendation sucks, less.

Broadway Our Way: Valley of the Divas

Girls will be boys and boys will be girls, or at least they will sing like them in this always-popular fundraiser for the fab folks at Uptown Players. Expect an atmosphere of camp so high you might need a Sherpa to find your way back to everyday life. Get your tickets quickly as this must-see event of the season always fills up quickly.

Sweeney Todd

You’ve seen the movie, own the action figures and even have the Sweeney Todd lunch box and temporary tattoo. Now see this show where it began, on the stage. There’s no Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, but you will get to see David Hess and Judy Kaye in the meat pie mayhem.

Dame Edna Live and Intimate

Long before those other drag queens like RuPaul and Ann Coulter roamed the earth, there was everybody’s favorite guy in a dress, Barry Humphries, delighting the masses as Dame Edna Everage. The website warns of sexual humor and innuendo. Count us in, possums.
