This weekend, we’ve decided to take an active interest in sports. Not because we’re suddenly claiming to understand their appeal, but because we’ve decided to learn everything there is to know about baseball from inside the locker room – one of our favorite places in the whole wide world.
It’s all part of Take Me Out, the 2012 season opener for Uptown Players. The smash Broadway hit won a Tony Award for Best Play and has been tickling funny bones and making gay men’s body parts tingle all across the country ever since.
The story focuses on Darren Lemming, a sports icon who’s the biggest thing in baseball. But when he calls a press conference to reveal to the world that he’s gay, his world comes crashing down around him jeopardizing his future, both personally and professionally.
Besides being a well-written play that touches on all sorts of emotions, Take Me Out is also famous for something else – plenty of nudity in all its flippity-floppity, badonkadonk, hubba-hubba finest. And if there was plenty of full monty happening in other Uptown Players productions, we can only bet that they’ll knock this one out of the park.
