Ordering off a restaurant’s regular menu has become tres passé. It’s sooo International House of Pancakes.
We prefer to be adventurous. Spur-of-the-moment. Culinarily daring.
Or as other people like to point out: snobby.
But that’s okay. If it means getting the freshest ingredients and the most innovative techniques and flavor combinations, call us whatever you like.
Our new favorite place for flying by the seat of our well-tailored pants is Bolsa Mercado. Sure, they’ve been around a while and big sister Bolsa often gets all the attention, but not any more. There’s a new off-the-menu menu in town and you can only get it on Friday nights.
It’s called “Meet & Eat” and Chef Jeff Harris always has something interesting up his chef’s coat sleeve.
For $75 per person (including tax and gratuity), you get a five-course meal (sometimes more) with beer and/or wine tastings. The menu is posted the Monday prior and only 20 lucky food lovers are able to experience the special dinner at the communal table inside Bolsa Mercado.
So not only can you try incredible creations like tomorrow night’s smoked pork cheek and dug egg tagliatelle, you can also make new friends who are ready to savor hot salt cooked langoustines with avocado and fennel purée and sangria pressed watermelon before sinking your collective teeth into a perfectly cooked lamb loin with roasted mushrooms and lamb bacon.
As of press time, there are still just a couple seats for tomorrow night, or plan ahead for a feast you won’t soon forget.
You’ll never look at a printed menu the same way again. Or the unwashed masses who don’t know any better.
