The long weekend is so close we can smell it. And it has distinct aromas of cinnamon, sugar and cloves. With more than a subtle hint of gingerbread.
If you’re like us, sometimes you need a little nudge to get into the holiday spirit. Thankfully, we’ve found a place more magically gay than the group shower in Santa’s Bath House & Spa for Wayward Elves.
It’s Shreveport, Lousiana’s Twenty-Four-Thirty-Nine Fairfield Bed and Breakfast, a Victorian wonderland of Christmas cheer just three hours from Dallas.
For anyone who’s never stayed in a bed and breakfast, might as well start with the best. Just prepare yourself for disappointment at all future B&Bs. That’s because this hundred-plus-year-old home is so quintessentially froo-froo that it’s easily the inn that other bed and breakfasts bow down to in reverence.
Especially at Christmas.
Within its majestic walls reside an army of nutcrackers, angels and sweet baby Jesi. There are Christmas trees everywhere and 24/7 holiday carols in the public spaces. It’s all the result of five weeks of hard work to display the most insane amount of holiday bric-a-brac imaginable.
Your hosts, Jimmy and Brian, are the most gracious innkeepers we’ve ever encountered. And that’s all before your head ever hits the pillow.
But even your wildest dreams can’t prepare you for their explosion of southern hospitality at breakfast.
Feast on freshly baked goodies, homemade jams and jellies, fresh-squeezed juice, coffee, eggs, brown sugar glazed bacon, sausage, tomato grits and hash brown casserole. Just save a little room for dessert because each lavishly and lovingly prepared breakfast ends with a made-to-order fried pie in the flavor of your choosing.
You know, in case you’re going for that sexy Santa Claus Belly that’s all the rage right now.
