Building a better relationship isn’t a do-it-yourself project

Holidays are always a time of reflection.

At Christmas, we analyze our friendships and determine who’s worthy of gifts and who gets our self-indulgent holiday letter. New Year’s brings thoughts of weight loss and self-improvement. And don’t even get us started about the craziness that is Arbor Day, especially now that all the retailers have turned this into yet another way to cash in on our devotion to trees.

So it should come as no surprise that when Valentine’s Day rolls around, we often take a good hard look at our relationship.

Are we fulfilling each other’s emotional needs and physical desires? Are we collaborating or simply compromising? And what is proper etiquette for telling our sex slave that his services are no longer needed?

Well, that’s where Candy Marcum’s Couple Communication Workshop comes in.

For those of you who don’t know Candy, she’s the Queen Lesbian of Mental Health (yes, that’s what appears on our insurance statements). For years, she has helped individuals and couples in Dallas become better people and more caring partners.

Her workshop is an intensive 8-hour course, split over two weekends for two hours at a time. Each couple participating must be able to attend all four sessions or their relationships will forever be cursed. (Just kidding, but it is a requirement to attend every day.)

We have several friends who simply rave about the workshop and what it’s done for their relationships. And Candy has quieted the Crazies in our head for years, which is proof that she can work miracles.

So this Valentine’s Day, skip the cheap chocolates and overpriced roses, and give your significant other the gift of a lifetime of happiness. (And that new BMW convertible wouldn’t hurt.)
