Nine questions with an underwear icon

The only thing we look forward to more than Santa Claus coming to town is Andrew Christian. Instead of a sack full of toys, he brings boys with full pouches. So in celebration of his upcoming visit to Dallas, we caught up with the legendary underwear designer on his new products and how hard it is to have a job looking at pretty boys for hours at a time.

Q: We must say, as gay men “Underwear Designer” has got to be the greatest job in the entire universe. What’s it like working with hunky models every day?
A: I have to say the best part of my job is getting to work with really hot models. Male models are so great to work with, they usually have great personalities and are really helpful in me realizing my artistic vision for my brand. Oh yeah, they are no too bad to look at either.

Q: Do you get to personally cast each model?
A: I do cast all of my models personally. I need to make sure they measure up to the Andrew Christian aesthetic and portray a good image for my company.

Q: What are the inspirations for your underwear designs?
A: My inspiration comes from my personal need to have underwear that are good looking, cool, but above all comfortable to wear. Let’s face it, if the underwear are not comfortable it does not matter how good they look if you don’t want to wear them.

Q: What is your favorite line in your collection right now?
A: My favorite collection right now is the Almost Naked. It’s so comfortable because it’s made of super soft bamboo fiber. The underwear also feature the hang free design that will, well, let you hang free.

Q: You do a lot of personal appearances with fashion shows for your collection, including your upcoming visit to Dallas. Why is it important for you to get in front of your fans?
A: I love traveling around doing personal appearances around the country. It’s important because I want to show my fans that you can be an openly gay male and be successful. I want to serve as an inspiration that, no matter what your circumstances are, you can make it.

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re in Dallas?
A: I love just hanging and talking with the local Dallas boys when I am in town. They are so nice and super friendly.

Q: Your official bio describes you as a “fashion God?” What will be your next creation?
A: My latest divine inspiration is the Show-It Brief and boxer. These are package enhancing underwear that have a no assembly required design. They gently lift and support your best assets.

Q: If you had to stop designing underwear and clothing tomorrow, what would you do?
A: I’m not exactly sure. I love designing and couldn’t imagine anything more I would love to do. Maybe come out with a pop album and a really hot video. That would be a lot of fun.

Q: Finally, the most important question of the interview. Boxers or briefs?
A: Actually both, as part of my job I need to test all products before I release them to the public. I have to make sure the fit and fabrics are perfect before they reach the masses. So it just depends on what mood I am in, as to if you will find me in briefs or boxers.
