Relax and rejuvenate at the Joule this summer

We used to think the idea of the “staycation” was rather lame, even though we’ve booked our own versions several times. We know times are tough, but for our money, we’d rather save up a little longer and actually go somewhere, anywhere, than stay in town.

Well, that was before we spent a recent weekend at the Joule.

This is a hotel experience that will make you forget you’re just a few miles away from that stack of bills on your kitchen counter, your tiny little office cubicle, and your boyfriend’s eyebrow-raising mother. From the moment you enter the Joule, it’s pure escapism chic.

The rooms are well appointed with one of the most comfortable beds and 350-thread-count sheets we’ve ever laid our weary heads upon, a shower big enough for four grown adults (hypothetically, of course) and killer downtown views. Neiman Marcus is on speed dial, and even if you can’t afford to shop there right now, they’re the most polite crank-call recipients we’ve ever encountered.

The stunning pool and accompanying bar are a great way to relax away an afternoon, as are in-room or on-site massages. Grab dinner at Charlie Palmer downstairs, then go WAY downstairs to PM Nightlife Lounge and bask in the glow of fake tans and bleached teeth in one of Dallas’ newest, greatest hot spots for late-night indulgence.

We rarely left the hotel, except to wander around downtown for a little sightseeing. Well, that and trying to get within 1,000 feet of “DtownDlsHottie” on Grindr. He was close enough to inappropriately touch!

Yet when Sunday rolled around and it was time for late checkout, we honest-to-gayness felt like we’d been on a real vacation. And we’re a hard bunch to fool.
