Unless you’re planning on going to a congressional hearing to beg the government for bailout money and need to convey an image of humility and poverty, there’s no reason a little recession should affect the quality of our wardrobes. Besides, what better than a few designer duds to make us forget our troubles? C’mon, get happy! And get to Couture Consignment on Oak Lawn.

This menswear-only consignment boutique is jam-packed with designer labels like Gucci and Prada just waiting for new owners. Though the store has been around for six years, we never even noticed it until yesterday when we were next door at Advanced Skin Fitness for our daily yearly age-reduction injections and their “Let’s Make A Deal” banner caught our eyes.

The gently used (or in some cases never-worn) merchandise includes shirts, pants, suits, shoes and accessories all from the world’s top designers (except Kathie Lee and Kathy Ireland).

Now, this isn’t a thrift store, so don’t expect to walk away with a pair of Prada shoes for $20. But right now, the store is having a 30% off sale so that savings can go a long way toward some therapeutic shopping.

Or if Old Man Pink Slip has made a visit to your house, maybe it’s time to unload the designer duds that are filling your closet. Simply bring in your best items and in most cases, the staff will let you know on the spot which items they’ll sell on your behalf.

Sure, it might be sad to part with your favorite Custo Barcelona shirt, but wouldn’t you rather pay your mortgage than attract a new man?

Hmmm…on second thought, that’s a very tough decision. Especially if he’s rich.
