Hard or Soft?
How do you like your weekend?
Whether you prefer vanilla or chocolate lube with a hint of rawhide, the upcoming weekend in Southern California has much to tease you with.
If your idea of teasing involves a gag and rubber handcuffs, the huge annual Los Angeles Leather weekend is slated to dominate the city. However, if spending your cherished free time with incarnadine flesh and the unwavering taste of leather boots isn’t your idea of a good weekend, we’ve highlighted other gay, gay, gay So-Cal options that might get you in the mood.
These are Rough Times
L.A. Leather Weekend
Thursday, March 26 – Sunday, March 29
If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, is our new motto. Each year thousands of gay fetish enthusiasts descend upon Los Angeles for the infamous annual L.A. Leather Weekend, and each year we’re tempted to scope out what all the hype is about. With a handful (cuffed, of course) of events, this might be the year we buy a codpiece and attend. The crowning of Mr. L.A. Leather 2009 on Saturday is noteworthy, but we’ve highlighted a few parties that get our chain-link manties all twisted with anticipation…

Our choice events from LAL:
To Hell and Back
Hell on Wheels
Thursday, March 26, 8:00 – 11:00 p.m.
Will roller skates and fetish accoutrements make for an ideal pairing? We’re dying to find out at the LAL official roller skating event tonight, where a crowd of leather-clad roller skaters will try their best to look sexy without tripping over their whips and excess fringe. Speaking of tripping, we’re considering wearing chaps in case we “happen to” fall…
Tickets: $11
Moonlight Rollerway
5110 San Fernando Road, Glendale

Whorehouse Party
Hard Tribe V Warehouse Event
Friday, March 27, 9:00 p.m. until late
Though the actual leather competition is touted as the central attraction of the LAL, the Hard Tribe warehouse party is by far the most popular. Devilish denizens descend (say that three times fast) upon a secluded warehouse downtown for a night of debauchery that you won’t be writing home to mother about.
Presale Tickets: $35
Lot 613 Warehouse
613 Imperial Street, Los Angeles

Even more groups of men in black…
And the Award Goes To…
Saturday, March 28, 3:00 & 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 29, 3:00 p.m.
If you prefer seeing guys dressed in black tuxedos rather than black leather vests, check out And the Award Goes To.... For the event, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles will be spoofing award shows by performing songs from them, such as It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp (Academy Awards) and Rehab (Grammys). Hosted by Miss Coco Peru, the event will also feature a live performance of Prop. 8 The Musical.
Tickets: $27 – $55
Alex Theater
216 N. Brand Boulevard, Glendale

T is for Trouble
Sinful Premieres
Sunday, March 29, 7:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.
If you’re still in the mood for naughty after LAL wraps up, head over to the premier of Sinful, a new monthly t-dance. Phil B handles the decks, while we’re hoping to handle more than a few of the hot go-go boys, and it all goes down at the fresh Ritual space in Hollywood.
Tickets: $10 presale; $15 at the door
Ritual Nightclub
1743 N. Cahuenga Boulevard, Hollywood

Puppet Love
Avenue Q
Opens Tuesday, March 31, through Sunday, April 12
The softest of all items on our calendar is obviously the opening of Avenue Q. The pansy plushies of the Tony-award winning queerific Broadway musical will be running in Orange County, of all places. However, if you had your fill of seeing hands stuck up funny-looking characters at the LAL, you might want to wait a week or so before you make the drive to Costa Mesa for Avenue Q…
Tickets: $20 - $65
Segerstrom Hall at the Orange County Performing Arts Center
600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa
