Now It’s Personal
We reveal our true selves
We thought there wasn’t any part of our body that we hadn’t revealed to guests, or the few lucky pedestrians passing below our bedroom window. We were wrong. For the ultimate exhibitionist, there’s DNA artwork.
The modern art phenomenon has been gracing the walls of culturally-conscious trendsetters for some time now, but to make the artistic process more transparent, DNA 11’s pop-up gallery is open and thriving in Hermosa Beach.
Guests of the gallery will witness firsthand how DNA is collected and transformed into a one-of-a-kind piece. We had always believed there was an art to deep-throating a long foreign object, but little did we know that the act could truly produce something others would consider highbrow.
Once you pillage your inside cheeks with the impressively-sized swab (it may not be big enough for some size queens), DNA 11 extracts your genetic information, applies it to a gel, and turns the DNA image into a work of art inspired by your individuality. What results is a colorful barcode-like graphic image, made even more impressive by the fact that the last things to hold our extracted DNA wound up in the laundry rather than hanging on our walls.
The beachside pop-up gallery, open through April 30, also gives guests a closer look at the company’s other forms of artwork: fingerprints and kisses.
Thanks to the pop-up gallery, we learned that each Kiss Portrait kit comes with a complimentary M.A.C. Viva Glam lipstick (not that we needed any more), perfect for enshrining our DSL’s above our sofa. If displaying your puckered lips for all to see isn’t enough incentive, consider the fact that DNA 11 donates a portion of Kiss Portrait sales to the M.A.C. AIDS Fund.
See, it’s true; we really are a work of art.
