R&R & Some B.S.

It’s hard to rest in Southern California

The theme of last weekend’s White Party was “Superheroes,” but our super recovering powers have yet to kick in. We’ve been dragging this week and proudly plan to phone it in throughout the weekend, as evidenced through our semi-relaxed, toned-down So-Cal calendar. Of course there are still a few big-top events that have been on our radar for a few months (like the GLAAD Awards, which we’re giving away tickets to below), but right now, anything with a dance beat is our kryptonite. Then again, we thrive amidst danger…

Gay 101
Britney Spears Circus Tour
Tonight and Friday, April 17, 8:00 p.m.

Tonight’s highly anticipated stop on Britney Spears’s Circus Tour is practically required if any of us want to keep our gay cards. Love her or hate her, say what you want about her, her arena tour has garnered critical acclaim, and is sure to be a pop spectacle you’ll hate to miss. If you seek Amy, our seat numbers are DD28, DD29…

Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough
Coachella Valley Music Festival
Friday, April 17 - Sunday, April 19

Had so much fun dancing in the desert last weekend that you’re dying to return? Even for those of us still suffering strained dance-floor ankles and bruised hotel-floor knees from White Party, Coachella actually has us considering testing the limits of our weekend-long partying abilities. Rare performances from acts such as Morrissey, The Cure and Paul McCartney round out an entire weekend of can’t-miss live music. We might need a wheelchair for the rest of April…

Happy to See Us?
GLAAD Media Awards
Saturday, April 18, 5:00 p.m. – Midnight

A ticket to the annual GLAAD Media Awards is a must for most gay industry folk. But with this year’s Vangaurd award going to the irreverent Kathy Griffin, LGBT of all walks of life are hoping to attend. GLAAD has responded by offering recession-busting $50 tickets, an unheard-of price for an event of this scale. We’ve all seen how the redheaded queen of the gays “spices up” award shows, and we finally get to see it live, without editing…

Can’t See the Forest for the Trees
The Forest at Machine Project
Through the end of April

Because we’ve lived in L.A. for a decade, we’ve lost our idea of what a tree is. To us, the archetypal tree sprouts from concrete, sports a bark that’s riddled with nails and staples, and smells of urine. The folks of the Machine Project realize that a little woodland action might be good for the Angeleno spirit, and have erected an indoor forest in Echo Park. The life-like installation hosts woodland-themed live music, bird call identification retreats and lectures covering such mythos as Bigfoot and elves. The installation will only be up through the end of the month, just before Eastside gays declare it a prime cruising spot.
