The Living Lynde

Paul Lynde returns to life in new stage show

It was believed that the only way to bring something back from the dead was to obtain a referral to Joan Rivers’ plastic surgeon.

But then actor Michael Airington came along, and with underground hoodoo (or maybe it’s just talent) brings Paul Lynde back to life… and we get to witness.

Obviously, we aren’t old enough to remember Lynde in real time. But given his affinity for a drink or seven and his ability to quickly spit off salty quips, we like to believe we’re Lynde reincarnate. We might’ve gotten away with it if it wasn’t discovered that we were three years months old when the comedy legend passed in 1982.

But Airington’s portrayal of Lynde in the side-splitting stage show Oh My Goodness… It’s Paul Lynde! allows us to forget all that. The show pieces together real monologues, performances and zingers from Lynde into a production that we never wanted to end.

Alongside the actor’s spot-on portrayal of our favorite historic heavenly homo appears Peter Marshall, who hosted The Paul Lynde Show, otherwise known as The Hollywood Squares.

Lynde, like us after we’ve responded to a group ad on Manhunt, liked being in the center. It was from this square he and Marshall exchanged such unforgettable one-liners as “You’re the world’s most popular fruit. What are you?” to which the comedian would respond, “humble.”

Airington’s and Marshall’s stage show is basically a homo humor crash course, one that sadly ends this weekend. Thankfully, we have a few more nights to study while we pray with all our fey that we can be half the sass-filled wit Lynde was, and Airington is.

Oh My Goodness… It’s Paul Lynde!
