Where There’s A Will, There’s A Grace
...And a Karen, too!
Leave it to the LA theatre scene to mark an end to three years of mourning. Though we enjoyed rocking a hot, BDSM-inspired laced veil, we certainly didn’t enjoy life without Will & Grace (and Karen and Jack).
But what the television taketh, the stage bringeth backeth. (Sorry we had something in our teeth.)
Three of the four actors who played the above characters are starring in stage productions taking over LA, and we couldn’t be more excited.
Eric McCormack and Debra Messing will be sharing the stage once again, this time to raise money for marriage equality, as fought for by the Human Rights Campaign. Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays matches short plays from noted playwrights like Terrance McNally and Wendy MacLeod with accomplished actors like Jason Alexander, Peter Paige, Zachary Quinto, Messing and McCormack in the spirit of repealing Prop 8.
On the other side of the hill, the actress who embodied our single biggest source of inspiration, Megan Mullally, is starring in The Receptionist (pictured). Though the pills, perpetual cocktail and polished look have been traded in for a mousy demeanor and – get this – a strong work ethic, Mullally’s newest character creation makes this off-Broadway dark comedy just as delectable as any multi-camera sitcom.
But the theatre won’t be completely free of Karen’s spirit: we’ve learned well, Megan, and may or may not be bringing a flask with us into the audience…
