For The Record

Décor that spins us right round, baby.

Typically when we hear about items being “repurposed” it brings forth visions of crazy shut-ins using old cat litter containers to store their fingernail clippings collection or discarded wine bottles découpaged with National Enquirer stories about Kirstie Alley’s alleged sex-change operation. (Don’t you think she looks just like Shannel from RuPaul’s Drag Race?)

But every now and then, finding new uses for old stuff can work out. Such is the case with the Mandala Reclaimed Record Bowl, part of online design haven Viva Terra’s “Eco Accents” line. Each is made from an actual oldie-but-goodie record with the spindle hole sealed watertight (the less mature would use this opportunity to make a comment about tight holes).

From there the vintage vinyl is folded into a flower shape and painted with a vibrant Mandala design in green or cream. But don’t fret; you can flip the bowl over to discover the record’s original artist and label.

Fingers crossed we get Anita Bryant’s Greatest Hits so her album gets to live on as a storage receptacle for our Sam’s Club condom and lube super pack. How’s that for justice!
