Climb The Stairs To Screwball
3 Cheers for 39 Steps
Imagine our shock as we weaved through the tourists in Times Square and came face to face with a human billboard hawking half-off tickets to the 39 Steps.
Hold on. Did that show somehow survive January’s mass Broadway suicide?
12 shows died, and 39 Steps lived?
The show’s tagline, “Hitchcock meets Hilarious” conjures up screwball comedy and cornball adjectives like whacky, madcap and zany. Not our bag! But since this show survived the theatrical of tragedy of 01/09, we decided to pay our humble respects.
And were blown away!
This virtuoso cast whips around the stage, taking no prisoners in a fabulous whodunit involving murder, spies…oh yeah, and witty one liners, laugh-out-loud action and even a Hitchcock cameo in the most entertaining piece of theatre since that low-budget drama when we came out to Mommy!
This virtuoso cast of four captivates in a way we haven’t been captivated since our last boyfriend. Also like our last boyfriend, each cast member takes on multiple personalities so disarmingly, we couldn’t tell who was who!
These actors give way more than your money’s worth. Yes, in this economy!
Although we can’t exactly recall what the plot was all about, we can say that the 39 Steps is everything we had imagined: madcap, zany, whacky. And we loved every minute!
