New Year’s Reparation
Making amends for holiday gluttony
Bouncing from one party to the next this holiday season hardly counts as exercise.
And, just because we got our heels stuck in four feet of snow and stumbling drunkenly after the only cab in Chelsea during a blizzard, doesn’t mean we worked off that last secret sugar cookie that jumped off the platter and into our pie holes.
What we need is a new fitness routine to repair the damage we’ve done and melt away the layers of guilt that stuck to our waistlines during the holidays. Luckily, we discovered the newly renovated Sports Center at Chelsea Piers – a huge complex that boasts far more than your average gymnasium.
The Sports Center is like the mother ship of fitness with over 100 group exercise classes each week, a 50-yard pool and more equipment and free-weights than any other gym in Manhattan.
The Center also offers a wide range of programs including triathlon training with a team that has won the team competition in the NYC Tri the last two years. Joining this team could present an opportunity to hang a new medal next to our “Miss Congeniality” blue ribbon we awarded to ourselves when we alerted that co-worker to the mess she was making with her hair.
Other programs include “The Beast” boot camp, taught military-style by trainers who don’t take ‘no’ for an answer – kind of like us after a few vodka martinis. The eight-week intense program utilizes 28 acres of fitness challenges, from pulling ourselves on a mat across a basketball court and negotiating an obstacle course to running up and down every stairwell in the complex.
And when we’re not getting our asses kicked by The Beast and training to win the next NYC Tri, we can simply relax, rejuvenate and replenish at the onsite spa.
